La "Piñafresa". The "Pineberry"

La "Piñafresa" es una fresa originada de Sudamérica con todo el aspecto de una fresa pero que sabe y huele a piña.

Lo curioso de esta fruta, aparte del color es que se puede decir que la piñafresa está en su punto cuando las semillas exteriores están completamente rojas (al contrario de lo que ocurre en la variedad habitual de esta fruta).

Esta fruta es más pequeña que la mayoría de las fresas cultivadas comercialmente, de entre 15 y 23 mm de diámetro y su sabor también es diferente al de la fresa común.

Puede parecer fruto de la ciencia pero es totalmente natural y refrescante.

Es el producto de la unión entre dos especies de fresas, la Fragaria virginiana, de origen sudamericano y la Fragaria chiloensis, norteamericana.

Esta curiosa y exótica fruta promete ser todo un éxito, y a pesar de que al principio muchos pensaban que se trataba de una broma, lo cierto es que esta fruta ya existía en otros países.

Esta fruta fue encontrada en el 2003 por granjeros holandeses, y se encontraba prácticamente extinta, pero decidieron salvarla y ahora se cultiva en condiciones controladas.
